DEVELOPMENT OF CRASH MODIFICATION FACTORS

Vanasse Hangen Brustlin, Inc. (VHB)

As a subconsultant of engineering firm VHB, Mason Epi served as a member of the Expert Statistician Support Team (ESST) in support of the FHWA’s Development of Crash Modification Factors (DCMF) “Focus Crash Types and Risk Factors” (Task B6) effort.

The overarching goal of Task B6 was to identify crash modification factors for highway safety improvement. Mason Epi’s role on the ESST included providing technical feedback on the proposed analysis methodology as well as identifying gaps in research and opportunities for analysis. Additionally, Mason Epi provided a public health perspective into the causal mechanisms involved in crash factor modification.

The project culminated in an FHWA report, filed by VHB on behalf of the Research, Development, and Technology Turner-Fairbank Highway Research Center, titled “Contributing Factors for Focus Crash and Facility Types.”
